Principal's Message
Hello Carlson Cougar Families!
I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying our last few days of summer.
I want to take a minute to talk about the importance of regular school attendance. Here are a few interesting points from the educational research:
- Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 10% or more of the school days. Missing just 2 days of school each month means that a student would miss more than 13% of the days in our school year.
- There is a connection between poor attendance and difficulty with learning to read.
- As of 6th grade, chronic absenteeism is a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.
- Students with better attendance have better academic prospects and are more likely to graduate.
If your child is too sick to attend school, by all means keep them home to rest and recover. On the other hand, if they are healthy, we would love to have them at school.
You are always welcome to reach out with any questions or concerns, 303-679-5700 or loraine.swartz@ccsdre1.org.
Happy Learning,
Loraine Swartz, Principal
