“Welcome to Carlson! We look forward to partnering with you to help your student grow.”
~ Loraine Swartz, Principal
Carlson Elementary offers preschool through 6th grade.
Learning in Nature
At Carlson, we consider our school, the surrounding nature, and our Idaho Springs community to be a gift that enriches learning for students and educators. We regularly leverage our “Gift of Place” through nature-based and community-based learning.
Experiential Learning
Learning is enriched through purposeful fieldwork and service learning integrated with academic work. Students are active investigators, applying the research tools, techniques of inquiry, and standards of presentation used by professionals in the field.
4-Day School Week
We operate on a 4-day school week. There are a variety of opportunities throughout the community for students and families to engage in on Fridays, including activities at the rec district, the library, and Snow Dodgers ski program.
Transportation
Clear Creek School District provides bus transportation to ensure students travel safely to and from school, even in challenging weather conditions.
Parents can stay informed about routes and updates through the district’s Transportation Services and Infinite Campus system.
Supportive Community
Our school is centered around something we call "crew." This concept comes from Kurt Hahn's quote: "We are crew, not passengers, strengthened by acts of consequential service to others." Crew fosters an inclusive environment by helping students learn how to support each other academically, socially, and emotionally, so everyone can reach ambitious goals.
Highly Qualified Educators and Staff
Our educators are experts in their fields, committed to fostering creativity, critical thinking, and a love of learning.
Carlson staff value the development of students as whole human beings, so they work closely with students to provide individualized feedback, support, and encouragement.
