Hello, Carlson Cougar Families! Thank you to everyone who participated in student-led conferences. The opportunity for students to share and explain their learning is important. It’s also important for teachers and families to collaborate in support and celebration of the students we share.
Celebrate Reading! Reading is a critical skill with numerous benefits. It develops students’ critical thinking skills and strengthens their cognitive processing abilities. Reading enhances students’ vocabulary, which in turn strengthens their conversation skills. On top of this, it builds memory, supports the development of empathy, and contributes to background knowledge. Developing students’ reading skills is one of the most important jobs we have as educators, but we can’t do it alone. Please encourage reading at home. Next week we will celebrate reading with a spirit week. Please see the flyer below.

Note From Our Nurse
Hello, Carlson Families. Several cases of the flu have been confirmed in our schools and community. The flu is highly contagious and spreads through close contact or contaminated surfaces. Students with flu symptoms should stay home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without medication and their symptoms are improving. To help prevent further spread, please encourage your children to wash their hands frequently, cover their coughs and sneezes, and stay home if they are showing symptoms. Please reach out with any questions or concerns to the district nurse at emily.leak@ccsdre1.org.
